HE ANGITŪTANGA WHAKAHIRAHIRA – A UNIQUE AND REWARDING OPPORTUNITY
Due to Board rotation and retirement, we are seeking three new Board Trustees to begin during the next financial year from 1 July 2025. If you are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of tāngata whaikaha (people with disabilities), this is your chance to contribute to meaningful change.
As a values-led, not-for-profit organisation guided by Te Ao Māori and committed to the mana of tāngata whaikaha and whānau, we are looking for governance leadership that reflects both strong commitments in several key areas that will enhance and embed the kaupapa of our services.
NGĀ TURANGA – ABOUT THE ROLES
This is an opportunity to join a Board with a diverse range of expertise in commerce, governance, quality improvement, clinical leadership, hauora, Te Ao Māori, and the disability sector. As a Trustee, you will provide strategic oversight and help ensure ongoing sustainability and impact for Te Roopu Taurima, kaimahi, tāngata whaikaha, whānau and other stakeholders.
KEI TE RAPU TARAHITI – TRUSTEE SPECIFICS
We are looking for applicants who bring strong expertise in:
• Te Ao Māori,
• Disability and clinical support service delivery,
• Finance and accounting,
• Legal processes,
• Risk management,
• Business and marketing
Candidates must have:
• Have an iwi affiliation, and values the principles of kaupapa Māori; Ideally brings capability in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori,
• Lived experience of disability.
• Previous experience working with government contracts and/or experience chairing committees or Boards;
• Demonstrate strong governance ethics, active participation, and effective communication;
• Respect for diverse views, manages time well, and prepares diligently;
MAHI A TE POARI – BOARD COMMITMENTS
Board meetings are held monthly, mostly online on the last Wednesday of each month from 4pm for up to three hours, based at our National Office in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland).
Trustees are paid a meeting fee, and travel expenses from outside of Tāmaki are covered. There is a Finance, Audit Services and Risk sub-committee within the Board that could also be part of the role for a successful candidate.
Trustees must be eligible for officer qualification under section 36B of the Charities Act 2005. (see www.charities.govt.nz).
