Company Profile Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust originated from the old Mangere Hospital where many clients were institutionalised in a system that proved inappropriate and insensitive to Maori.
In August 1992, concerned employees organised hui (meetings) journeying up and down the country asking whanau what they wanted for their intellectually disabled mokopuna. It was a time consuming process, but it became clear that an independent kaupapa Maori service that identified the needs of Maori mokopuna was required.
After some time a Memorandum of Understanding was formalised and signed between the Ministry of Health, Spectrum Care Trust and Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust establishing the beginning of a Maori service. In November 1999, Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust separated their services from Spectrum Care Trust to become an independent kaupapa Maori organisation. The goal of providing tikanga based services was realised.
Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust initially gained accreditation and certification from Quality Health NZ in 2004 and from there continued to grow in strength and numbers. In 2007, the Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust received re-accreditation from Quality Health NZ and certification from the Ministry of Health until 2010.
Today skilled, knowledgeable and competent kaimahi strive to ensure the continuous improvement of quality services carries on.
