New Zealand’s largest Kaupapa Maori Provider has appointed Pita Cherrington, who holds a Bachelor of Strategic Management from Otago Polytechnic to the position of CEO.
Mr Cherrington is currently the Executive Manager Business Services at Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust.
Prior to this, Mr Cherrington had a lengthy career in the banking sector as well as working in both managerial and project management positions within the private sector.
The Trust’s Chair person John Marsden – QSO said “that a nation wide search for candidates led by Momentum Consulting was undertaken”.
“Mr Cherrington’s business experience, understanding the needs of people with an intellectual disability as well as his expertise in Te Reo and Te Ao Maori make him the perfect candidate to lead the Roopu as it continues to grow and provide quality based services” quoted John Marsden.
The former CEO/Mana Whakahaere Tuila Tenari – ONZOM passed away early this year in January. Mr Marsden said “that Mrs Tenari’s inspirational leadership has laid a solid foundation for Mr Cherrington.
Proceedings are underway by the Board, Staff and Mokopuna to host a powhiri for Pita in acknowledgement of his new role.
Te Roopu Taurima O Manukau Trust is a Kaupapa Maori organisation providing residential and vocational services for people whom have an intellectual disability. The Trust provides services in Te Taitokerau, Auckland, Waikato and Christchurch.
